How many Valorant agents are there?

The roster currently holds 30 agents. Hush, the telekinetic Duelist from Guangdong, China, became the 30th when she arrived on October 27, 2026 with Season 26, Act VI. Before her the number was 29.

The roster is deliberately small. Riot adds only a few agents each year, and each new release has to occupy a space that no existing agent already fills. That is why Valorant has fewer characters than most hero shooters but a far longer list of matchups to learn.

The four roles and how many agents each one holds

Every agent belongs to one of four roles, and the roles are not evenly sized. Here is the full split, with the current membership of each group.

Who are the newest Valorant agents?

Hush is the newest agent in the game: 30th overall and the ninth Duelist. She was revealed at the VALORANT Champions 2026 Grand Final in Shanghai on October 18, 2026 and released on October 27, 2026.

Before her, the most recent addition was the Controller Miks, who joined earlier in 2026. Hush is therefore the second new agent of 2026, and the third Valorant agent from China after Sage and Iso.

If she is the pick you care about, start with the Hush reveal page or go straight to her ability breakdown.

How to unlock a Valorant agent

There are four routes into your collection, and the first one is almost always the one to take:

  • Recruitment event. Every new agent ships with their own recruitment event. Earn XP while it is active and you unlock that agent for free. This costs you nothing but playtime.
  • 1,000 VP. Once the recruitment event closes, the agent moves to the store at a flat 1,000 VP.
  • 10,000 Kingdom Credits. The currency you earn from daily play can be spent on agents.
  • Xbox Game Pass. Link an active Game Pass account to your Riot account and agents are granted through the Game Pass agent selection.

Which Valorant agent should you main?

Pick by playstyle first, agent name second. Roles are where the real difference lives, so the four groups below are grouped exactly that way.

If you like taking the first fight, pick a Duelist

Duelists are built to enter first. Jett, Raze, Neon, Phoenix and Yoru are the classic aggressive picks; Reyna and Iso reward you for winning your duel; Waylay adds a prismatic dash package; and Hush is the newest option for players who would rather set up a pull and a flash than sprint in.

If you like controlling where the fight happens, pick a Controller

Controllers own the shape of the map. Brimstone and Omen are the most direct starting points, Viper rewards pre-round planning, Astra and Harbor are high-utility picks for coordinated teams, Clove keeps working after death, and Miks is the newest of the group.

If you like opening a site for your team, pick an Initiator

Initiators gather information and force enemies out of position. Sova and Fade are the recon picks, Breach and Skye bring stuns and heals, KAY/O suppresses enemy abilities, Gekko sends in reusable creatures, and Tejo steers a missile and a drone from across the map.

If you like holding an angle alone, pick a Sentinel

Sentinels lock down space. Killjoy and Cypher are the classic trap-and-camera picks, Sage is the only agent who can resurrect a teammate, Chamber fights long angles, Deadlock and Vyse deny pushes, and Veto is the newest trap-based option.

The full roster, listed on this page

The roster table on this page lists all 30 agents grouped by role, drawn from a single data source that is updated whenever Riot adds or changes a pick. Treat it as the quick reference, and use the sections above for the context behind the names.
